Managing Movement – Solutions for Peak Performance

Managing Movement - Solutions for Peak Performance

Description

Our KC colleagues in Spain at Fisio-Sports, headed up by Professor Michal Hadala are delivering a packed series of events this year, starting in just a few days time with the Peak Performance course on 29 January in Valencia Course Outline Do you have patients that seem to recover well from musculoskeletal injury or pain … until they return to sport or return to work? Do they tolerate sedentary function well, but fail to tolerate functional activities or complain of recurrence of symptoms when they return to loaded, repetitive or sustained activities? The problem is often related to a lack of stability under load, large range or speed. The term ‘core stability’ has become generic. This term is now used by many people to describe a large variety of different types of exercise based training programmes. It has become necessary to differentiate and redefine the different elements that now make up the concept ‘core stability’. This course highlights the advantages and differences between motor control and strength based stability training programmes These different elements include: Motor Control Training of the Local Stability System Motor Control Training of the Global Stability System ‘Core’ Strengthening of the Proximal Trunk and Girdle Muscles Power Strengthening of the Limb Muscles Principles and strategies for retraining these different elements are presented. Clinical indications for prioritising the retraining each of these different processes are detailed. The process of making the transition from low threshold motor control training to high threshold strengthening and overload training is detailed. The integration of stability rehab into high load function and sport is detailed at three key levels. Developing and maintaining stability during resistance training and identification of the failure of the stability system under load. Control of proximal stability in the spine and pelvic and shoulder girdles through large range spinal movement. Assessment and correction of rotational stability dysfunction in the trunk and limbs in non-neutral positions is emphasised. Training and maintenance of stability during high-speed movement and rapid change of direction.
